rfxcel Announces Updated MobileTraceability App for F&B
Reno, NV, September 18, 2019. rfxcel, the global leader in supply chain track and trace solutions, today announced that it will release new and improved features on its MobileTraceability application for food and beverage organizations. MobileTraceability integrates the power of rfxcel’s signature Traceability System (rTS) with the built-in scanning capabilities of mobile devices and scanners.
The mobile app empowers users working in a broad range of locations, from enclosed sites such as warehouses to external sites such as farms and fields. Track and trace data can now be accessed in a timely manner by the people who need it most. To give organizations maximum flexibility, the MobileTraceability app supports multiple platforms, from ruggedized devices with optimized scanners to consumer-grade devices with built-in cameras. Now companies can select devices that meet their needs and budgets.
New features include recording of information via quick scans of products; packing of trays, cases, pallets, and shipments; reporting of shipments and receipts at the source; extensive views and reports to track and trace data; and custom events and workflows for quality inspections.
“Our new MobileTraceability app brings rfxcel’s industry-leading track and trace capabilities to virtually any location, including places that traditionally may not have been visible in supply chains,” said rfxcel CEO Glenn Abood. “It’s perfect for the food and beverage industry, where real time tracking and traceability is key to brand success, but users in any industry will find that it enhances supply chain operations and security.”
Abood said the app not only adapts to any workflow, but can transform how companies manage their supply chains. Critical tracking events and key data elements can be added to a product’s record. For example, users can add a photo or integrate a quality inspection to enrich the data associated with any product as it moves from harvest in the field to the shelves at a market.
“The modern food and beverage supply chain is complicated,” Abood added. “It has unique demands, and a one-size-fits-all approach just won’t work. Our MobileTraceability app allows us to be as flexible as our customers need us to be and to deliver granular visibility anywhere their supply chains go. We’re very excited to be able to offer this solution.”

rfxcel Continues Rapid Growth, Success in Russia
August 28, 2019. rfxcel, the global leader in supply chain track and trace solutions, today announced that it had doubled the size of its workforce in Russia and was pursuing deals in new industries, continuing its rapid growth in one of the world’s most important markets.
The new Russian staff joining rfxcel’s Moscow-based operations bring expertise in key areas of supply chain management and technology. Their experience includes project management and purchasing in the international automotive supply chain, telecommunications, liaising with developers and engineers to ensure they understand and meet customer requirements, business development, technical project administration and coordination, and customer training.
They build upon rfxcel’s established team of supply chain experts in Russia, led by General Director Victoria Kozlova. Ms. Kozlova manages the implementation of rfxcel’s robust track and trace solutions for the life sciences. She has almost two decades of experience in pharmaceutical and consumer goods supply chain management.
With the addition of this staff, rfxcel is poised to continue its expansion into other industries, most notably retail and branded goods. The company is currently in talks with a U.S.-based multinational branded clothing and footwear corporation to track its products from warehouses in the EU to points of sale in Russia. Other industries rfxcel is pursuing include food and beverage, luxury goods, and consumer goods.
rfxcel entered the Russian market with a roster of clients in the pharmaceutical industry. The longest-tenured supply chain track and trace solution provider in the life sciences, rfxcel is one of few providers with implementations in Russia. It is helping companies meet the country’s complex regulatory requirements, including strict serialization guidelines that will go into effect on January 1, 2020. Russia’s pharmaceutical market is expected to reach $38 billion by 2021.
“This is a very exciting time for us,” rfxcel CEO Glenn Abood said. “We have been committed to growing our presence in Russia, and things are really taking off. Doubling the size of our team, especially with such talented and experienced people, will make us nimbler, expand our geographic reach, and give us entrée to new markets and customers. We’ve made a name for ourselves in Russian pharma and compliance; we’re ready to take those successes and build on them in retail branded goods and other industries that can benefit from our proven supply chain technologies.”

rfxcel to Exhibit at CPhI Middle East & Africa in UAE
(Aug. 22, 2019). rfxcel, the global leader in supply chain track and trace solutions, will exhibit at this year’s CPhI Middle East & Africa (MEA) conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The company is cultivating business in the region, particularly pertaining to new serialization requirements from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA).
More than 4,900 suppliers and buyers from across the worldwide pharma supply chain are scheduled to attend CPhI Middle East & Africa, which will be held September 16–18 at Abu Dhabi’s National Exhibition Centre. The annual event is a chance for pharma professionals to network and see the latest in pharmaceutical technology.
“rfxcel is going to CPhI Middle East & Africa for several reasons,” rfxcel CEO Glenn Abood said. “Of course, we’re excited to meet people and let them know about our innovative track and trace and compliance solutions. But we also want the industry to know we’re serious about working in the region and have proven technology to meet serialization requirements there, in Saudi Arabia, for example.”
The SFDA initiated a Drug Track and Trace System (RDS) to track both imported human registered drugs and those made in Saudi Arabia. The system adopts GS1 standards and applies to all pharmaceutical products on the Saudi market, including over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. All drugs must be marked with a GS1 Data Matrix barcode that contains, at minimum, the GS1 Global Trade Identification Number (GTIN), the expiry date, and the batch/lot number. This information must also be printed on labels. All transactions for drug packages must be reported to a national Drug Track & Trace System (DTTS), and all manufacturers licensed by the SFDA must acquire a Global Location Number (GLN).
Furthermore, every registered drug in the Saudi market will be assigned a Saudi Drug Code (SDC) that contains four variables: a fixed prefix, the year, a letter to identify the type of drug, and a serial number (e.g., SFDA12D001). The SDC will eventually replace the current code.
“The SFDA and SDC requirements are complex and will be challenging for pharma companies,” Abood said. “But rfxcel has experience around the world — in Russia, India, China, Brazil, the EU, and the United States — and has unrivalled track and trace and compliance capabilities that we want to bring to Saudi Arabia and other MEA countries. An array of stakeholders will be affected by the Saudi regulations. We want them to know rfxcel has the powerful solutions they need to be compliant.”

rfxcel Begins Verification Router Service Pilot for the FDA
Reno, NV July 9, 2019 — rfxcel, the global leader in supply chain compliance and serialization solutions, has begun a pilot for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to extend the testing of the Verification Router Service (VRS) for saleable returns.
The VRS specifications outline interoperability standards that enable a network of VRS providers to meet the 2019 saleable returns requirements of the Drug Quality and Security Act (DSCSA). Working together, the Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA) and pharmaceutical stakeholders defined the VRS standards and tested the VRS network to confirm readiness for the upcoming requirements.
rfxcel’s FDA-approved pilot is structured to enable transparency and open testing. A key and unique aspect of the pilot is that rfxcel will share the details of its VRS test cases with all VRS providers to ensure they have a common detailed set of test cases. rfxcel will work with the providers to verify the test conditions to enable maximum readiness of the VRS network across all VRS providers.
“We are excited to continue the effort started by the HDA, and we are honored to be conducting the FDA VRS pilot,” said rfxcel CEO Glenn Abood. “The pilot seeks to measure and ensure the seamless interoperability between VRS providers across a broad range of use cases. Complete and consistent verification of the use cases is critical to successfully meeting the DSCSA saleable returns requirement.”
rfxcel is working with pharmaceutical supply chain partners of all sizes to extend the testing to ensure that all edge-cases are verified and ensure that interoperability readiness is quantified.
The rfxcel VRS pilot started in June; it will expand throughout the coming months and conclude before the end of the year. To learn more about rfxcel or participate in its VRS pilot please, contact us at /contact-rfxcel/.

rfxcel Joins PDSA Governance Workshop & Public Meeting
The Pharmaceutical Distribution Security Alliance (PDSA) is an interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder initiative that functions like a cross-industry trade association. Established and coordinated by Leavitt Partners, LLC, a health care intelligence firm in Washington D.C., PDSA’s cause is true to its name: It is a collective committed to safeguarding patients by ensuring that the pharmaceutical supply chain remains as secure as possible.
The Alliance focuses on policy and technical standards for the pharmaceutical industry. Its members span the entire spectrum of the U.S. pharmaceutical distribution system, including manufacturers, wholesalers, pharmacies, third-party logistics providers, and their trade organizations.
PDSA was instrumental in helping to develop and enact the 2013 Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA), which calls for a single nationwide system for product serialization and traceability to protect patient safety and ensure security of the drug supply chain. In addition to electronic tracking and tracing of all drugs, it requires any company that wants to sell or trade a pharmaceutical product in the United States to have interoperable communication and coordination. Per the law, no government agency, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will determine or govern the technology or system.
PDSA now works with the FDA and Congressional stakeholders to meet three objectives:
- Understand the DSCSA to identify ambiguities and challenges that require clarification or the development of operational solutions.
- Engage the FDA to ensure regulation is consistent with PDSA objectives and the best reading of DSCSA
- Work with members to identify, develop, and memorialize the cross-sector challenges and needs to move the industry toward unit-level interoperability by 2023
Because DSCSA is so complex and demands transformative change, PDSA and other stakeholders have advocated forming an independent, sector-neutral governance body to guide the interoperability it mandates. With a series of white papers and public meetings, PDSA has begun formulating a vision for this body through the FDA Pilot DSCSA Governance Processes. Although the Alliance does not intend to push into business operations or attempt to issue regulations, according to Eric Marshall, a senior director at Leavitt Partners who advises PDSA, “there is a space in between where there’s going to need to be some alignment.”
Historically, PDSA and its industry partners engaged only their supply chain trading partners. For DSCSA, however, they recognize the key role solution providers will play, not only in the law’s broader traceability efforts, but also as constituents in the governance model. rfxcel, the first solution provider to focus on pharmaceutical supply chain safety and bring advanced track and trace software to manufacturers, repackagers, wholesalers, distributors, and dispensers, has been asked to participate in the PDSA’s Governance Pilot and provide insight to significant issues, including the structure of the governance body, designing a 2023 technical roadmap, and regulatory direction.
On May 1, 2019, rfxcel participated in the PDSA Governance Workshop and public meeting, which engaged the DSCSA community and provided feedback on what will be necessary to ensure the governance body will be effective and successful. By working with PDSA, rfxcel is fulfilling its mission to be the thought leader in traceability technology and to enable customers to better manage their businesses today and deliver value tomorrow.
